Laser Hair Removal for Women: Facial Hair

Too much facial hair on women can be a bit embarrassing, especially if the hair growth is rather profuse. If you subscribe to everyone’s concept of feminine beauty, too much facial hair can indeed be considered unsightly, especially around the lips and on most parts of the cheeks. The bearded lady look may be a political statement for some, but most ladies would not want it. Naturally, there are many possible ways of eradicating unwanted facial hair. For temporary measures, there are women hair removal methods like plucking, sugaring, threading and waxing. These work well if the hairs to be removed are in small, manageable clusters; and if the person in question can actually perform or undergo the said treatment. For example, diabetics are not likely candidates for waxing due to their condition.

However, for denser areas, temporary measures such as these can be problematic and painful. Can you just imagine threading out the fine hair on your cheeks? Waxing eyebrows is one thing, waxing the hair around the lip area is quite another. (Imagine how painful that would be.) Using chemical depilatories on the face is definitely out of the question. These might actually do your skin more damage by burning off the epidermal layer of your skin. Besides, chemical depilatories need to be performed every 2 days. Additionally, dermatologists discourage women from using razors on their faces that may cause painful razor burns. There are some ladies then who opt for more permanent measures like laser hair removal. Lasers are one of the more favored women hair removal methods for several reasons. Of course, the primary reason would be the fact that it is permanent. Laser treatments usually entail several sessions; between 6 to 8 sessions at best, depending on the area in question, the type of hair and the density of the hair growth. Nonetheless, after all that sessions, there will be no more maintenance visits to the dermatologists and certainly no more products to use afterwards to prevent future hair growth.

Lasers are used to literally destroy the melanin and the hair follicle. Although this kind of treatment is considered as a permanent body modification method, many people consider this as a gentler alternative to other hair removal methods like chemical depilatories and even waxing. For one thing, lasers treatment only cause localized damage - pointedly focusing its energy on the dark materials of the hair matrix and nothing else. Chemical depilatories and wax need to be applied directly on the skin in order to get to the hairs that need to be removed. In extreme cases, mishandled chemical depilatories can burn right through the epidermis; while wax can strip off the same said area in one go.

Lasers also work well for large concentrations of hair. In fact, the darker the hair; the coarser the hair; the fairer the skin of the person undergoing the treatment, the faster results it will yield. This means that dense cheek and lip hair growth won’t be a problem.
